This was by far the highlight of my trip. We were seated ordered coffee and snacks. I went for a wander around and when I came back there was a bearded dragon sleeping on our table! You get to keep them for a while and then given another one. Along with the bearded dragon we had a tortoise, a chameleon called Pascal who I fell in love with, a rabbit and Clyde the guinea pig who also stole my heart when I lifted him onto my chest and he snuggled in and made the wee squeaky noises. There are other animals also and cats that take your table hostage!! Staff are very nice also. Thank you for taking the time to write your review, your feedback is vitally important to us. We hope to see you again in the future.

This event was a first for the GCA – we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part for helping to make it such a success. I found it challenging, hugely enjoyable, nerve-wracking, informative, eye-opening and slightly bonkers! Hi Sharon.

It can be a daunting and intimidating prospect to even ASK for feedback let alone give it. Last week I rolled off a client that I had been at for just over a year, and this was one of those teams that we were pretty terrible at giving each other feedback. A couple of people on the team had done group feedback sessions before. I was new to this.
I felt a mixture of excitement and fear at the prospect of sitting in a room while everyone tells you what they think of you…. The team has been together for a long time now though and we are all quite comfortable with each other. We were also a reasonably small group of 8, so that made it seem much more manageable. To keep the sessions constructive and focused, there was prep work for each of us before the session.
We would each spend time self-reflecting on. Putting our thoughts into a Google Doc that we would then share with all of the team. If someone has identified something that they think they should work on, there is no need for the other 12 people on the team to point it out too. Also gives everyone a chance to process their feedback in their own way before talking through it, and saves you trying to collect feedback while people are talking to you.
Now to the actual session. We allowed 3 hours, after work, offsite, with pizza and a couple of beers.
A fun experience that provides a nice “defenses down” evening. Everyone was there to talk, and that made for several enjoyable, albeit short conversations. Not sure a person will find true love at this type of event, but a fun evening. I liked the setting for this event much better than at some other speed dating events I have been to. The large area, spread out tables, and high ceilings made it much quieter, cooler, and easier to talk than some others, which I really appreciated.

To access hundreds of premium or staff resources, log in or sign up for an account. They spend ten minutes in pairs, offering each other specific feedback on a high-stakes writing assignment, before moving on to another partner for another round of critique. Actually two student exemplars. I want you to go back to the two articles and I want you to evaluate them based on the content and development criteria. It has quotes.
Each round lasted approximately 13 minutes and focused on one specific category of the writing rubric. I give the student pairs three to five minutes to read the work of their peers. Then they have five minutes to give critical feedback. Like some people only see grammar mistakes, some people only see spelling mistakes and there are some people who look for like the deep down things like you need more quotes or you need more information.
This is what speed dating really allows them to practice.
Because feedback can be awkward and hard to do if not practiced often, you need to incorporate feedback exercises into the habit of the teams. Self-managed teams need to be able to solve their differences on their own, and only when they feel comfortable to tell each other about the good and the bad, the big and the small, can they succeed at difficult times.
The Speed Dating or Speed Feedback is another exercise that you can consider to practice feedback with your team. This format is very interesting because it allows everyone to open up a bit and practice face-to-face feedback without making them feel too exposed. There is something about the countdown, the movement around the chairs and the noise around you that somehow takes some of the pressure off.

Abstract : Information systems IS pedagogy research supports the use of collaborative learning strategies that are based on the belief that learning increases when students work together to solve problems and develop cooperative learning skills. In this paper, we present an empirical comparison of two classroom design approaches – a ‘speed dating‘ method and a traditional presentation format. We collected and analysed data from student questionnaire-based surveys and in-class researcher observations of student engagement in an undergraduate senior capstone course entitled, ‘Innovation in Information Systems’.
Our results show increases in student engagement reported and observed and improvements in student-driven feedback given and received during the speed dating sessions as compared to the presentation sessions. We believe these findings demonstrate that the speed dating method is an effective alternative to a presentation format and is a useful complement to other collaborative learning methodologies.
